Built in 1997, the mission of the center is to promote a greater understanding and appreciation of Arkansas history, literature, art, and culture. The center was named after Richard C. Butler Sr., a lawyer and philanthropist based in Little Rock. While the building’s main attraction is its library and historical archive, it is also known for its art galleries that display some of the best works of local artists.
